British Values

We recognise British Values as Human Values and as such we are keen to incorporate them into our daily practice at Bloxham Grove Academy.

Human Values at Bloxham Grove Academy

The Department for Education has stated that there is an emphasis “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

These values are reinforced at Bloxham Grove Academy in the following ways:

Students are encouraged to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence. Our Restorative Approaches and pastoral system allows our students to access key adults who daily encourage our students to reflect on their achievements.

Processes are in place at school for students to distinguish right from wrong.  We have a robust Relationships and Behaviour Policy which aligns with our commitment to embedding Restorative Approaches in everything that we do.

Our students are encouraged to accept responsibility for their behaviour through our emphasis on Restorative Approaches. This gives students opportunities to be honest and accept responsibility if they have caused harm.

Our School Council and other opportunities such as peer mentoring and community service for students in Serpentine Gallery give times for students to understand how they can contribute to the lives of others.  Through our mend-it-meetings and other aspects of Restorative Approaches, students are explicitly taught to consider how their choices and actions impact on those around them.

All adults at the academy support our students to acquire a broad knowledge and respect for public institutions.  This ranges from guests including our local Member of Parliament to associated professionals such as our safer schools officer and representatives from local businesses.

We enable students to appreciate different cultures and traditions, including their own within curriculum areas such as history, geography and religious studies as well as in assemblies and within our PSHE programme.

Students are encouraged to respect each other.  This is a fundamental aspect of our support for wellbeing within school with the promotion of safety, respect and understanding of others. Bullying in any form is not tolerated and any instances of bullying or targeted unkindness is dealt with swiftly and with impact.

Students are encouraged to respect democracy, the democratic process and the law.  We have an active School Council and our developing PSHE curriculum intends to encourage students to voice their opinions about important school issues and this ensures our students are aware of the principles of democracy.

Our 6 Values

Our chosen school values align with the Human Values as noted above. Together we decided that the values that mattered to us most as a community are honesty, trust, respect, welcoming, kindness and resilience: these values are embedded in our school culture and are noticed by visitors who comment on the ethos and feeling of community which has been created in such a short time.
