School Lunches
At Bloxham Grove Academy students have a choice of bringing in their own food for lunch or having a hot lunch provided by our caterers.
We have a strong focus on student health and wellbeing which enables students to make informed and appropriate choices in order to live healthy lives. Healthy eating, physical activity and making sensible lifestyle choices are incorporated across the curriculum and in the infrastructure of the academy. One of our 3 fundamentals is linked to this aim:
Being Active and Healthy: we aim for our students to learn how to be active and healthy young people who are given lots of opportunities to learn in the outdoors
The provision of school meals is driven by a motivation to provide healthy, nutritional and creative food choices which are available and inviting to all students irrespective of their dietary requirements and their individual needs. Adults serve students their lunch in a family service setting, providing a safe and secure eating environment which encourages positive social interaction and association during school meals. The predictability of our lunches supports all our students who find transition and change a challenge.
If your child would like to bring their own food for lunch, we encourage you to follow our principles about healthy eating and ensure they bring food which is appropriate to meet this aim. We therefore ask that sweet treats are kept to a minimum. Please note that we do not allow fizzy drinks in school at any time.
We have a number of students/staff in school with severe food allergies, therefore we politely ask that no foods containing any type of nuts or sesame seeds are brought onto the school site.
Some examples of foods that contain these groups are:
Bags of nuts
Chocolate spreads
Some granola products/bars
Sauces that contain nuts
Houmous
Students’ feedback on their school meals is encouraged and actioned; this is facilitated through the School Council.
