Learning Outside of the Classroom

Learning Outside of the Classroom is a key area of our curriculum: we encourage our students to learn independence and enjoy being outside. We understand how positive it is for our students to be outside for their mental as well as physical wellbeing.

Outdoor Classroom

We offer all our students a weekly class session in our newly developed Outdoor Classroom which has a purpose built fire area and mud kitchen along with opportunities to explore nature, use tools, learn knots and build dens using man-made materials.

Warriner School Farm – Educational Visits

We feel very lucky to be able to use Warriner School’s farm. We have our own access to the farm via a gate on our school grounds to make it very easy to access this resource.

Our Key Stage 2 students visit the farm three times a year to see the seasonal changes in the autumn, spring and summer term.

Our Key Stage 3 students visit the farm and use the Forest School area three times a year to take part in the following activities: den building using natural materials, climbing trees, making and using rope swings, identifying flora and fauna.

Our Key Stage 4 students visit the farm weekly to help them achieve their Animal Care and Horticulture accreditation.

Life Skills

Whilst at Bloxham Grove Academy, all our students will be given the opportunity to learn the following life skills:

  • Bike Safety (Cycle proficiency)
  • Water Safety (Learning how to swim)

Educational Visits

All our students will have many opportunities to attend educational visits during their time at Bloxham Grove Academy. Examples of these include activities such as exploring the local area (Bloxham, Banbury, Oxford); going to the Black Country Museum, The National Space Centre in Leicester, a whole school trip to the pantomime plus many activites linked to accreditations such as visiting work places.

Adventurous Activities – Residential Visits

We are very keen for all our students to experience a range of residential overnight experience. These are graded in difficulty from a 1 night campout on the school field to eventually building up to an educational visit in a European destination for our eldest students.
